The best light for a face comes from the sides, not above. Mount a pair of sconces at about 60 inches from the floor, 28 to 36 inches apart, either side of the mirror; a small chandelier or flush mount in the centre of the room adds general light and a note of luxury over a freestanding bath.

Alabaster and frosted-glass sconces give an even, flattering light; crystal sconces add sparkle in a powder room. Specify the fixture for the zone it will sit in and we will confirm suitability.
